MK ships new portable harness tester to ThyssenKrupp
ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems is the latest defence customer to invest in an MK Test System for use aboard submarines.
Germany-based ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems are the world market leader in submarines. They recently took delivery of a Portable F1500 Automeg, an automatic high voltage wire harness system at their Kiel shipyard. ThyssenKrupp required a specialist configuration as standard rack-based harness test systems were not suitable for use in submarine applications.
MK Test’s Portable Automeg has fulfilled all the requirements demanded of this tough environment. The high spec portable system is encased in a wheeled Peli case. It’s equipped with a rugged outer shell, splash proof hardware and a robust zero insertion force interface connectors, making it easy to use in any condition and offering field deployable, compliant test capabilities.
The system is fully capable of the same full range of HV tests as a standard Automeg rack-mount system, but in a form factor much more suited to a marine defence application.
A solution designed for submarines
MK Test Systems Sales Manager Graham Andrews said “ThyssenKrupp are recognised as one of the best submarine manufacturers in the world. We were delighted to be able to provide them a solution that’s fit for purpose in the demanding environment of testing onboard submarines.
He added “Our systems are designed to be flexible enough to suit a wide range of applications, and whilst this brief was more demanding than some, our team of engineers have designed a great solution. The team are looking forward to seeing the system in action aboard ThyssenKrupp vessels.”
Jason Evans, Sales Manager at MK Test Systems explained “This is a really exciting new application for the Portable Automeg, and we were happy to take on the challenge of finding an automatic HV test solution suitable for use on submarines. With our work in the defence sector primarily being on aircraft and communications systems up until now, this is now another application within defence where we’ve been able to show our expertise in test and measurement.”
