Work Experience
Work Experience Journal 2024
My name is Robin Wedderkopp and I’m a year 10 student at Court Fields School in Wellington, Somerset. This is a blog about my time with MK for Work Experience 01/07/24-05/07/24! I was the marketer and I had two friends here who were engineers.
Monday:
On Monday, me, Saxon and Harry were greeted at the door by Alan and Sally and signed in at the sign in tablet. We were taken around the two MK test systems buildings and shown where we will be working and where we can go and where we can’t go (we were told that if the red light was on in an area, then it was unsafe to enter). After the tour around the buildings, we were given our very own MK test systems T-shirts! And then after that we were taken upstairs to the main building by Alan to have a Health & Safety briefing. After being taken through a PowerPoint about safety which was very long but very well made, we were taken by Daryl to the same place for another PowerPoint this time about Auto Meg testing. The PowerPoint was also very long but very well made. Once that happened, we were taken by Jo to be shown an Auto Meg test. Even though I didn’t understand some of it at first, he explained it to us very well and made sure we understood him. After that we had lunch (MacDonalds) and made sure we were back at 1:00 so we were on time. Afterwards, I was separated from Harry and Saxon who left to go and make Radios in the other building. I was taken to another office with Sally who explained the plan we had for the project. The plan was that Harry and Saxon would make Radios, and I was going market their Radios. After the explanation about the plan, she told me about many marketing techniques that really helped me structure and do the marketing for the Radios. After that, I went over to my own desk for the week and filled out my Work Experience book! Then, Harry and Saxon came back from making Radios and filled in theirs too. Sally took me back into the office for a minute and asked me how my day had gone and asked me if there’s anything else I would like to do tomorrow which hadn’t been planned, which was very kind of her. Once Harry and Saxon had filled in their Work Experience book, we were told we could leave, so we did. Overall, this day was very interesting and good since it meant we had a Tour and a brief on what will be happening this week!
Tuesday:
On Tuesday, Me, Harry and Saxon were together again! We were taken to the office and the plan was explained to them. Once they understood the plan they left, and I started on my side of the project. First, Sally showed me what the MK test systems website looked like in the editing side and showed me how to make my own page on the website too! Then she showed me the MK Test Systems LinkedIn and explained to me how LinkedIn works. Then, it was lunch time! I went to Subway this time. Afterwards, Sally explained that I should start out with making a PowerPoint with the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) of the Radio. We also decided the Radio would be waterproof even though it wasn’t since it needed something special about it. Other than being waterproof, the other qualities the Radio had were being see-through, being small and compact and being cheap to buy. So, I went off and started making the PowerPoint, but I didn’t get the time to finish it on Tuesday as it was already time to go so, I quickly filled in my Work Experience book with Harry and Saxon and then we left for the day. Overall, this day was very good because I started some work of my own and understood how the marketing side of MK test systems worked on the website and LinkedIn.
Wednesday:
On Wednesday, I stayed in the work area all day and worked on making a LinkedIn/Facebook Post, the start of a Brochure, a Logo for the brand, a Product name and starting the website for the Radio on Canva. The name I chose was thought of by Harry, The Wavio! I chose this because it is a mix of Waterproof and Radio and sounds very much like a brand name too! After that I made the LinkedIn/Facebook Post which I decided to focus on an old couple in their garden doing some gardening outside whilst it’s raining and the Wavio is still playing. Then I moved on to the start of a Brochure. For the Brochure I used a template to help me structure it nicely but then changed the structure, so it looked completely different to the template. Then, I filled it in with information about the Wavio and added pictures of gardeners and radios. I also used multiple different fonts and sizes to make parts of the page stand out more than others. After that, it was lunch time! I had a packed lunch this time. Then, I decided on the brand colours! I chose Green to represent the Outdoors and Blue to represent Water since the Radio is waterproof. Once that had been chosen, I made 3 logos on Canva and eventually settled on one because it had a wave like font and a simple blue and white design. Then I started on the website with Sally, and we found a very good template to use! We used the brand colours as the background which faded into each other and swapped out the template photos for better fitted photos linking to the product. Then, I added the logo but after that I had to stop since my computer crashed for still an unknown reason! But luckily all my work had been saved and I only had about 30 minutes left anyway. I needed time to fill in my Work Experience book, so I took this opportunity to do so and soon enough it was the end of the day at MK. Sally asked me how my day had gone and how much of the work I had gone through. Then Me, Harry and Saxon left for the day once they had both filled in their books. Overall, this day went very well as I got a feel of what it was like working by myself in a work environment for most of the day! I also had a couple of Coffees! The work environment at MK is amazing, there are lots of friendly people around to help if needed and I felt very comfortable there.
Thursday:
On Thursday, I started the day by fixing the computer by calling up IT support and soon enough it was fixed and working again. Then, I edited and changed the start of the Brochure and the LinkedIn Post to fit the brand colours and added pictures of Harry and Saxon to them. After that I was visited by someone from Court Fields (Mr Redwood) and explained to him what I had done that day so far. After that, me, Mr Redwood and Sally went to the other building to visit Harry and Saxon and see what they were doing. Whilst I was down there, I took some photos of them doing their work to add to the website! Then Mr Redwood left and me and Sally took some photos of the Radio to add to the Website. We took photos of the Radio at different angles on bushes and beside them. Then, I returned to the main building and me and Sally edited the photos of the Radio to look better on the website, using tools like Auto Focus to blur things so it focused on the radio only. Then, it was Lunch! I had another packed Lunch. Once lunch was over, I returned to working on the website and added lots of information relating to the Wavio, A help section and added in the pictures I had taken of the radio, Harry and Saxon. Then, I published the website!

The Waterproof Radio For The Outdoors
Then, I started this, Blog! I wrote all the way up until Thursday and before I knew it, it was the end of my day and Work Experience. I filled in my Work Experience book and then Sally asked me if there’s anything I wanted to do on my last day. Then, Harry and Saxon filled in their books, and we left for the day. Overall, this day was very good since I got to see one of the Court Fields Teachers and explain how my time was so far, almost finish off all my project and start this, Blog!
Friday (Last Day):
On Friday, I started the day by writing this blog! Then I presented my Marketing Plan to Daryl and Jo. After that, me and Sally met Saxon and Harry in the other building, and they showed us their radio and then we took photos together! This is the end of the Blog since i’m publishing it now so I can’t write about what happens after this. My time at MK has been amazing and I’ve found it to be a very nice and comfortable place to work in. The people at MK are very kind and helpful and Sally has helped me have an outstanding time here and learn so much more about Marketing and how to market well. She also has helped me with finding new Imedia skills to help me in school too! I’ve loved my time here and it’s a great place to work!
Thanks for giving me a wonderful time at Work Experience MK,
Robin Wedderkopp
