TE Seacon select Automeg for SEPS compliant connector testing
MK Test Systems have recently installed two Automeg HV wire harness test systems for new customer TE Seacon, based in Texas, USA.
TE Seacon are world leaders in the manufacture of electrical underwater mateable connectors. Their products are typically used in deep sea drilling control, ROV, AUV systems, communications and power.
Seacon needed a solution for testing HV (high voltage) subsea connectors and cable assemblies for the offshore Oil and Gas industry. The connectors are designed for operation in typical subsea environmental conditions; high pressure and temperature, and supply voltages and currents up to 3.5kV and 100Amps respectively.
Seacon’s connectors are designed to meet the joint industry SEPS standard for subsea power connectors, jumpers, and assemblies. The Automeg also meets these standards, ensuring TE Seacon and other subsea customers can continue to provide high quality componentry.
To ensure SEPS compliance, the Automeg test systems delivered to TE Seacon can perform a wide range of electrical tests including:
- Insulation tests up to 8.5kV measure electrical insulation up to 250GΩ.
Of particular benefit to subsea customers is the API which is built into MKAT, MK’s test management software. The API allows the test system to run from a master controller. This means that electrical testing can then be performed in sequence with external test equipment. In the case of testing subsea connectors, this will typically be a pressure vessel.
Jeff Miller, Sales Manager at MK Test Systems said “It’s awesome to see the systems now in place with TE Seacon. For the type of test they’re running, Automeg was the right solution for them.”
